JOSHIMATH

Joshimath also known as Jyotirmath is the winter seat of Lord Badri, and thus is reckoned to be a sacred place in Uttarakhand. Situated in the Chamoli District, Joshimath is where one of the four ‘Maths’ were established by the Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th-century. It is here in Joshimath that one also has the opportunity to witness the sacred Kalpvriksha, which is said to be 1200 years old. The city is also dotted with a number of temples like Narsimha and Gaurishankar that witness arrival of a lot of devotees. Therefore, inarguably, this city in Uttarakhand is amongst the most important destinations for Hindu pilgrimage tour.

NANDA DEVI NATIONAL PARK:

About 20 kms from Joshimath, Nanda Devi National Park is located around the peak of Nanda Devi mountain in Uttarakhand. The park has a sanctuary inside by the name of Nanda Devi Sanctuary, which is a glacial basin enclosed by the ring of high mountain peaks.


KAGBHUSANDI TAL:

The lake has a strong history, the local people say that it is cursed for crows. It is believed that if crows fly over this lake they will die. People have found many crow feathers around the lake. The lake is situated some 46 kms from Joshimath over the Kankul pass.


BAGINI GLACIER:

Some 58 kms from Joshimath, Bagini Glacier is a show stopper. The glacier is a well-known tourist attraction because of the trekking and camping activities held here.


BADRINATH TEMPLE:

Badrinath temple which is situated about 46 kms from Joshimath is amongst the top pilgrimage places for Hindus. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, in his Badri incarnation and is the part of both Chardham Yatra and Chhota Chardham Yatra.


MANA VILLAGE:

Famous as the last Indian Village on the Indo-China Border. Mana is a picturesque tourist village in Uttarakhand. The village is situated some 50 kms from Joshimath and a short distance from the famed Badrinath Temple.


ROOPKUND:

A high altitude glacier lake which is situated in the lap of Trishul massif is another attraction for tourists because it is known for hundreds of skeletons which are found near it. About 161 km from Joshimath, this place is also famous for the breathtaking campsite.


VALLEY OF FLOWERS

Some 20.7 kms from Joshimath, towards the western Himalayas, Valley of Flower National Park is situated. This place is well known for its meadows of endemic and alpine flower and variety of fauna. It is home to some endangered species of animals like Asiatic black bear, snow leopard, musk deer and many more.


VASUDHARA WATERFALL

Located near Badrinath temple, Vasudhara Waterfall is a mesmerizing place. It is often used as a stoppage point for tourists who are trekking from the Mana Village to this waterfall, which is situated just 52 km from Joshimath.


HEMKUND SAHIB

Located 130 kms from Joshimath is the famous high altitude Sikh pilgrimage, Hemkund Sahib, which is an attraction for not only the Sikh pilgrims but also for trekkers.
